LUMEZZANE – Accessibility, connection and social interaction as the guiding thread of the project
The project turns some of the site’s problems, such as its steep slopes and the self-sown vegetation that grew up after it was abandoned, into major attractions for the future users of the park. The varied terrain, from flat to very steep, is used to create highly differentiated areas of particular natural, landscape and recreational interest. The path network is designed to connect the internal areas, overcoming the sixty-metre difference in level between the northern and southern ends of the park, and above all to connect it with the surrounding urban fabric through five new gateways. The paths will give maximum accessibility to every kind of user (people with physical or sensory disabilities, users with temporary disabilities), and are also designed to make supervision, safety and maintenance of the park easier. Alongside recreation, the main activities include play, culture, education and social interaction, supported by a website dedicated to the park. The green area will also play an important role in enhancing the urban context, as well as an ecological and landscape role.
