Project details

Client: Municipality of Meda (Monza Brianza) Location: Viale Tre Venezie – Meda (Mb) Year: 2009-2012

Viale Tre Venezie and neighbourhood park

The project covered the stretch of Viale Tre Venezie running from the roundabout at the junction with Via Ravenna almost to the junction with Via Volturno. Landscaping the whole area was an opportunity to give Meda an open space full of activities and opportunities for leisure, meeting, socialising, play and cultural growth – and also the “flywheel” to drive the improvement of areas and routes linking it to important nearby places. As well as regenerating the road, including tree-lined planting strips separating the cycle and pedestrian path from the carriageway, changes were made to the existing car parks, treated not as “service” areas but as spaces integrated into their context through numerous planting beds and trees. The park itself occupies the strip between Viale Tre Venezie and Via Gorizia: keeping and supplementing the existing vegetation wherever possible, the project completely transformed these areas, introducing paths and functions that create a rich mix of activities and places to stop and enjoy the outdoors, with “high-density” areas such as the green hollow, the large tree-lined agora with stage and seating, and the rest area with the café pavilion and pergolas with outdoor seating, which includes the existing newsstand; and “low-density” areas such as walks across the lawns and tree-lined footpaths. The cycle path, running alongside the footpath but clearly distinguished by its different paving, winds through the park, passing through the “gateway” formed by the light volumes of the pavilions (newsstand and café) and then running past all the main spaces.
