Parco Poste

“Parco Poste” lies in the centre of Grandate, yet before Studio Green Design® redesigned it, it was not used as a park in any strong, year-round way, but rather as a short cut between the post office and the schools to the south, the sports area and Via Manzoni and Via Volta. Its strategic position certainly deserved a design that would make the most of the space and attract more people, turning it into a real place to meet. To achieve this, many connections had to be reconsidered, especially given the steep slope of the site and the need to make every point of the park accessible to all, including people with disabilities. The heart of the garden was completely rethought: we designed and built a paved space of straight, perpendicular lines but highly varied shape – a sequence of platforms linked by long-stride steps and ramps, punctuated here and there by benches, the large central flower bed and elongated rectangular “islands” of perennial ornamental grasses that offer colourful, ever-changing scenery. This approach composes the spaces like the pieces of a puzzle, sometimes set into the paving, sometimes into the grass, sometimes straddling paving and lawn. There is water too, in a simple rectangular feature set into the paving, with four flush foam jets. The attention to every detail shows in the paths and the furniture alike: towards the sports ground there is a small seating area with a long bench, with a concrete base and a wooden-slatted seat, which takes advantage of its fine position among the maples to overlook the play and sports area like a belvedere.
