Project details

Client: Municipality of Melzo (Milan) Location: Via Curiel – Melzo (Mi) Year: 2007-2008

Via Curiel Park

We chose to give this area a strong focal point, important both for its function and for its size (about 500 m²): an irregular, curving square paved in porphyry setts, whose surface is not flat but rises and falls, like a group of small mounds, artificial dunes and small hollows. The changes in level are modest (from -50 cm to +60 cm relative to the park), but the sinuous shape and central position make the square visible from every point in the park. This space, which also has trees set in cast-iron tree grilles, has many uses: from a simple meeting place to a play area, especially for skaters and skateboarders, who can make the most of the “paved hills”. The scheme also included a play area for young children with impact-absorbing safety surfacing in different colours. The furniture design includes two iron pergolas with double tables and benches in wood and cast iron.
